After USS John Finn transited the Taiwan Strait on January 24th, China has put its military on high alert, increasing military flights around the island of Taiwan on January 25th

China states that both sides of the Taiwan Strait; located 70 and 100 nautical miles from the Chinese mainland belongs to China, while the United States says the strait is an international waterway.

"John Finn's transit through the Taiwan Strait demonstrates the United States' commitment to upholding freedom of navigation for all nations as a principle … No member of the international community should be intimidated or coerced into giving up their rights and freedoms." the US navy stated about the warship

China accused the States of “hyping the public” for possible escalation
