Following Wagner's downfall, Russian President Vladimir Putin established the Africa Corps, formally deploying troops to Burkina Faso.
A few days ago, Burkina Faso's military junta received support from Moscow when 100 military personnel were sent to Ouagadougou, demonstrating the strong relations that exist between the two countries—even though the war in Ukraine is still raging.
These soldiers are meant to assist in defending junta head Ibrahim Traore and the general populace against opposition, according to a post on the PMC’s Telegram channel.
However, it became evident as soon as the newly formed Russian Africa Corps soldiers touched down in the nation's capital that they would effectively replace the outgoing Wagner Group, Russia's notorious private military contractor.
But now, unlike Wagner, the new unit will report directly to Russia's Defense Ministry. The Telegram message further stated that another two hundred soldiers will shortly be sent to the region.
