Margarita Simonyan, head of state TV broadcast in Russia, uploaded an audio recording on her Telegram channel claiming to show German forces "talking about how to strike the Crimea bridge," which connects Russia to the Ukrainian peninsula it conquered and annexed in 2014.
Olaf Scholz, the chancellor of Germany, promised a thorough investigation following the leak of a video allegedly containing private army discussions about the war in Ukraine on Russian social medias. The Defense Ministry of Germany have also confirmed the authenticity of the call.
On the intercepted conference call – which was held on the WebEx platform instead of an internal army communications network – a question of whether Taurus cruise missiles might destroy a bridge is discussed between four German air force officers and it seems to be a reference to the recently constructed bridge that spans the Kerch Strait and connects Russian-occupied Crimea to the Russian mainland.
“We are currently unable to say for certain whether changes were made to the recorded or transcribed version that is circulating on social media," a spokeswoman for the ministry said.
