Pro-Russian Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro called on for the country’s Armed Forces to "prepare for whatever comes," in the face of any plan that threatens the regime
"Armed forces, military power, alert and prepared for whatever arises, whenever and wherever it arises, to defend the homeland, the Constitution, and the people. [...] I have always extended my hands to all sectors, but especially to the extremists, to tell them 'stop, stop, stop.' Enough, come back to the Constitution!'"
Maduro referred to his opposition – the United Democratic Platform (PUD) as “extremists and terrorists” and “far-right” whilst the government is negotiating with them. The Russia-aligned socialist president accused the political opponents of being involved in conspiracies, including an alleged plot to assassinate him. He warns that those attempting to destabilize the Executive Power “will be met with fury of the people.”
Recently, three important opposition figures under the leadership of María Corina Machado were recently arrested and are experiencing "forced disappearance," as reported by lawyers and family members.
