"I'll know if your kids are in Haiti, if your wives are in Haiti, if your husbands are in Haiti ... If you're gonna run the country all your family ought to be there." – threatens Jimmy "Barbecue" Chérizier, the most powerful gang leader.
47-year old Jimmy Chérizier is a former police officer alleged of committing numerous mass killings such as 2018 La Saline massacre, which left 71 civilians dead, back while he was still worked as a police officer.
After being fired from the police force, Chérizier organized a gang in 2020, calling themselves “G9 Family And Allies”, after which they began to take part in brutal gang wars with rivals before moving on to confront the government.
The heavily armed gangs have tightened their hold on the capital, and the Caribbean nation is trying to find a solution to a protracted political and social crisis that has forced thousands of people to flee their homes.
After the Haitian PM resigned and every elected official left the country due to hostilities, 95 different gangs are fighting the government and each other for power. Although unverified for now, reports of cannibalism are also present.
